The ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED turns portable into powerful

At IFA this week ASUS once again showed off the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, an impressive device with tons of innovation. The ZenBook 17 Fold OLED is ASUS’s answer to a versatile and portable computing experience that goes with you anywhere and does whatever you want or need it to do.

Fully powered by Windows and packing some serious screen real estate, the ZenBook Fold 17 OLED has the potential to really transform the way you use your computer. While ASUS is calling it a laptop, you can also consider it a large tablet PC. It’s essentially a laptop without an attached physical keyboard. But it does have the capability to connect to one through Bluetooth and ASUS even offers one as an included accessory.

Without the Bluetooth keyboard, you can still use the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED in laptop mode to use it like a laptop. Which positions a digital keyboard on the bottom half of the screen and the top half becomes your laptop display. Or you can lay it flat and use it in tablet mode with touch. Perfect for scrolling through news feeds. As well as online shopping, or any other number of activities or tasks.

You can even use the tablet vertically with a slight fold and the included Bluetooth keyboard. Which gives you more scrolling screen space. You get the idea. This laptop/tablet can be used a lot of different ways.

ASUS appears to have thought of every use case scenario

At a starting cost of $3,499, the Zenbook Fold 17 OLED is anything but inexpensive. But for innovation of this magnitude we kind of expected nothing less on the pricing front. It’s powerful thanks to the 12th gen Intel Core i7 CPU and 16GB of RAM. And there’s plenty of room for storage with the 1TB SSD.

More impressive though is that ASUS seems to have thought every single use case scenario. Fullscreen 17-inch tablet? Check. Folded notebook mode? Check. Prop it up with the kickstand and use the Bluetooth keyboard if you like. Or fold up the screen and use the touchscreen keyboard.

What was most impressive to us though was ASUS’s attention to detail for cool yet functional design. While you have the laptop display folded with the Bluetooth keyboard connected, you can place the keyboard on top of the bottom half of the folded display and it instantly becomes more like a traditional laptop with a smaller screen. This neat design element is a nice way to still have a tactile keyboard for typing while also freeing up some surface area.

All-in-all, ASUS is really driving forward this new part of the industry that encompasses computers with foldable displays. And all of that innovation paired with sleek design is why we gave the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED the Best Of IFA 2022 award.
