The Google Pixel Fold got announced today as the company’s first foldable offering. You can actually choose between two Pixel Fold colors, and they don’t get more basic than this. The device comes in Obsidian and Porcelain colors.
These colors may have fancy names, but we’re basically looking at black and white variants of the device. Truth be said, some would argue that the ‘Obsidian’ color is very dark gray, and not black, and it kind of is.
The Obsidian color has a dark gray hinge and a matching camera island on the back. It’s a different shade than the phone’s backplate. The Porcelain color combines a white-colored backplate with a silver camera island and hinge.
Some of you may have expected more fun colors from Google, but this is not your regular phone. The Pixel Fold is quite expensive at $1,799, and it’s also the company’s first-gen foldable device. So, Google is playing it safe here.
Most people are usually interested in black or white-colored devices, so this makes sense. Google probably did thorough research before settling down on these two colors. At least we’re not limited to a single color.
Out of these two Pixel Fold colors, which one should you choose?
So, which color should you opt for? Well, that’s something only you can answer, but the Porcelain model does have one major advantage. It’ll hide fingerprints way better than the Obsidian model.
The same was the case with the Pixel 7, for example, which is also available in an Obsidian color. Fingerprints are simply less visible on white-colored devices, those are just facts.
Other than that, they’re basically on the same playing ground. If you prefer darker phones, the Obsidian is for you, if not, the Porcelain model is. Do note that both have black bezels on the front, though, of course.
