The Pixel Fold got announced today at Google I/O, as Google’s very first foldable smartphone. We’ve already talked about the device in our original announcement, and we’re now here to take a closer look at the Pixel Fold specifications. Needless to say, there’s a lot to talk about here.
The Google Pixel Fold has a powerful set of specifications, including two OLED displays
Let’s kick things off with the displays. There are two displays here, of course, as this is a book-style foldable. The main panel measures 7.6 inches, and it offers a resolution of 2208 x 1840. This is an OLED display with a 380 PPI, and a 6:5 aspect ratio. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, and has Ultra Thin Glass on top, with a protective plastic layer. This display does support HDR content, and it gets up to 1,450 nits of peak brightness.
The cover display, on the other hand, measures 5.8 inches, and it’s a 2092 x 1080 OLED panel. We’re looking at a 408 PPI, and this display has a 17.4:9 aspect ratio. It does support a 120Hz refresh rate, and it’s protected by a sheet of Gorilla Glass Victus. It does support HDR content too, and its brightness gets up to 1,550 nits at its peak.
Google’s Tensor G2 fuels the phone, while you’re getting 12GB of RAM here
The phone is fueled by the Google Tensor G2 SoC, the same chip that fuels Google’s flagship phones. Google also included the Titan M2 security chip here. The Pixel Fold comes with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage.
A 4,821mAh battery sits on the inside of the phone. Google did not specify the charging speed here, but it did say that you can get “hours of power with minutes of charge” by using Google’s 30W USB-C charger with USB-PD 3.0 (PPS). This charger is sold separately, by the way. Wireless charging is supported, but we don’t know its wattage/speed.
Three cameras are included on the back, led by a 48-megapixel main unit
On the back of the phone, you’ll spot three cameras inside the camera visor. A 48-megapixel Quad PD camera has OIS support + CLAF. We’re looking at a 1/2“ image sensor size here. This camera has a 82-degree field of view, and an f/1.7 aperture lens. It also has an 0.8um pixel size.
The second camera on the back is a 10.8-megapixel ultrawide unit (f/2.2 aperture, 1.25um pixel size, 121.1-degree FoV, 1/3“ image sensor size, lens correction), and the third one is a 10.8-megapixel telephoto camera (dual PD, 1.22um pixel size, f/3.05 aperture, 21.9-degree FoV, 1/3.1” image sensor size, 5x optical zoom, Super Res Zoom up to 20x).
On the front, each of the two displays has its own camera. On the main display, that camera is located inside the top bezel. It includes an 8-megapixel camera (1.12um pixel size, f/2.0 aperture, fixed focus, 84-degree FoV). The camera inside the cover display is a 9.5-megapixel unit (dual PD, 1.22um pixel size, f/2.2 aperture, fixed focus, 84-degree FoV).
A side-facing fingerprint scanner is included, while the phone is IPX8 certified
There is a side-fingerprint scanner included here, the power/lock buttons doubles as a fingerprint scanner. The phone also supports facial scanning via front-facing cameras. Bluetooth 5.2 is supported, while a Type-C USB 3.2 port sits at the bottom. This is a dual SIM phone (nano SIM + eSIM). The Pixel Fold has stereo speakers, and three microphones. It is IPX8 certified, and supports 5G connectivity. Android 13 comes pre-installed.
The Pixel Fold measures 139.7 x 158.7 x 5.8mm when unfolded, and 139.7 x 79.5 x 12.1mm when folded. The device weighs 283 grams. It comes in Obsidian (black) and Porcelain (White) colors.
