HONOR has just announced its newest smartphone offerings to the world. At MWC 2023, the company announced the HONOR Magic5 series phones, alongside the global variant of the Magic Vs foldable.
Before we begin, do note that the Magic Vs foldable got announced in China last year. The Magic5 series, on the other hand, is brand new. Two phones are coming from that series, the Magic5, and Magic5 Pro, but HONOR barely mentioned the vanilla model. The Magic5 Pro was in focus, that’s for sure, as that is the company’s new flagship.
HONOR Magic5 Pro
Having said that, let’s talk about it first. The Magic5 Pro features a large, curved display, with a pill-shaped camera cutout in the top-left corner. Its bezels are immensely thin, while the phone is made out of metal and glass.
On the back, you’ll notice a large camera island, a circular camera island. It’s centered in the upper portion of the phone’s back, and includes three cameras. One of those cameras is actually a periscope telephoto unit, which we’ll talk about in a second.
Spec-wise, the HONOR Magic5 Pro is truly well-equipped. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, while the company included 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM here. You’re also getting 512GB of storage inside the phone.
A 6.81-inch LTPO quad-curved display is also here, with a 120Hz refresh rate. It offers a resolution of 2848 x 1312, and it gets immensely bright, up to 1,800 nits when needed.
A 5,100mAh battery is also included here, and the phone supports 66W wired charging. A charger is included in the box, by the way. 50W wireless charging is also supported here.
Stereo speakers are a part of the package, as is DTS:X Ultra support. Android 13 comes pre-installed on the device, along with MagicOS 7.1 skin. An in-display fingerprint scanner is also a part of the package, as is 3D facial scanning.
HONOR also thought about security, as it included Dual-TEE Security System (HTEE+QTEE), and a discrete security chipset. Bluetooth 5.2 support is also on offer.
A 50-megapixel main camera (f/1.6 aperture) is backed by a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera (122-degree FoV), and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (3.5x optical zoom, 100x digital zoom). A 12-megapixel camera sits on the front, as does a 3D depth camera.
This phone is IP68 certified, and comes in Black and Meadow Green colors.
HONOR Magic Vs
The HONOR Magic Vs comes as a direct competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The phone is a book-style foldable, with a large inner and outer display. It is fueled by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, and offers 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
A 7.9-inch 2272 x 1984 main foldable OLED display is included here, and it offers a 90Hz refresh rate. A 6.45-inch 2560 x 1080 OLED cover display is also included, and this panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate.
This handset has a 5,000mAh battery, and it supports 66W wired charging. The charger is included in the box, but wireless charging is not supported.
Android 13 comes pre-installed, along with MagicOS 7.1 skin. There are stereo speakers included here, and two SIM card slots. Bluetooth 5.2 is also supported.
A 54-megapixel main camera (Sony’s IMX800 sensor, f/1.9 aperture) is backed by a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera (f/2.0 aperture, also serves as a macro camera), and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera (3x optical zoom). A single 16-megapixel camera is included on the front.
The dual-security system from the Magic5 PRo is included here too, in case you were wondering. This phone includes a Super-light Gearless Hinge, and folds flat It comes in Black and Cyan colors, and weighs 267 grams.
Availability
The HONOR Magic5 Pro will become available starting from Q2 2023. The Magic5 will cost €899 (8GB RAM + 256GB storage), while the Magic5 Pro pricing is set at €1,199 (12GB RAM + 512GB storage). The HONOR Magic Vs, on the filp side, will be priced at €1,599 (12GB RAM + 512GB storage).
