Quite recently, a report surfaced saying that Huawei may start getting 5G chips from Qualcomm. Well, it seems like that rumor was not accurate, as it was just denied by Huawei’s exec.

Huawei won’t be getting 5G from Qualcomm after all, exec confirms

It is said that Huawei’s smartphone business is showing signs of improvement. Huawei seemingly raised its 2023 smartphone shipments target to 40 million units. That is a considerable increase, as the target was set to 30 million earlier this year.

The Huawei P60 series and the Mate X3 seem to be the main reason why Huawei changed its outlook. Huawei’s supply chain is also recovering, adding to the good news section.

Huawei could also announce the Mate 60 series later this year, but nothing is certain just yet. The Mate 50 series arrived last year, and the Mate 50 Pro has proven to be a truly excellent smartphone, with outstanding camera performance.

The US ban made things really difficult for Huawei, but the company is doing its best

Huawei did not have an easy path for years now. Since the US placed the company on the entity list, things went sideways. Huawei was on the way to becoming the world’s number 1 smartphone OEM, but then it was forbidden to use Google Play Services, and additional restrictions followed.

These days the company is forced to use 4G processors, and it had to create its own ecosystem within Android OS. It now serves its own services on its devices, along with its own app store.

It remains to be seen how will things develop from here, but Huawei certainly does still make very competitive smartphones, some would say amongst the best in the business. Let’s see if the company can reach its goal of 40 million smartphone shipments by the end of the year.
