The upcoming iPhone 16 series is expected to offer ‘5G Advanced’ for even more reliable and efficient cellular connectivity. However, there’s a catch.
According to a technology analyst, Jeff Pu, Apple is going to use Qualcomm’s latest X75 modem in the iPhone 16 Pro/Max. But the non-Pro models will continue to use the same Snapdragon X70 modem from the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 14 series.
MacRumors predicts, “Apple is likely to market the iPhone 16 Pro models as featuring ‘5G Advanced,’ much like the iPhone 6s gained support for ‘LTE Advanced’ in 2015.”
Apple has not differentiated the Pro and non-Pro models in network equipment until now. So, if this is true, it will be another factor pushing you toward the more expensive models, especially if cellular connectivity is something you rely on.
5G Advanced and Its Features
The new Snapdragon X75 modem with 5G Advanced is the world’s first to include a dedicated AI tensor accelerator. The modem offers a combined mmWave and sub-6 architecture, which takes up 25% less space and is 20% more power-efficient. So, connectivity is looking promising for at least the upcoming Pro iPhones.
Regarding the ‘5G Advanced,’ it offers better carrier aggregation support and overall faster upload and download speeds. This new standard is typically seen as the next phase of 5G or even an evolution toward 6G.
About the iPhone 16 Lineup
Speaking of the iPhone 16 lineup, Apple could introduce an Ultra model alongside all four existing models. The iPhone 16 Ultra will reportedly bring one more camera on the back. alongside a portless design.
Regarding display size, the Pro models might also get bigger. According to the rumors, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max might feature larger 6.27-inch and 6.85-inch displays, respectively.
If there is one more contender in the premium side of the iPhone 16 lineup, Apple could go even further to shape the non-Pro models in a way that justifies the price of the Pro and Ultra model.
