According to a new report, the Apple iPhone 17 is expected to get a new 24MP selfie camera, and a new lens too. In addition to a 24MP selfie camera, the phone is said to include a 6P lens. This information comes from Ming-Chi Kuo, by the way, a well-known analyst.

The iPhone 17 is expected to feature a 24MP selfie camera with improved lens

As a reminder, the iPhone 15 models that are currently available include a 12-megapixel selfie camera. On top of it, Apple placed a 5P lens. Apple is looking to considerably upgrade both components, but that will happen next year.

Now, the analyst also said that Genius will be responsible for providing components for those upgraded cameras. Considering that it will be a sole provider, it seems, a considerable revenue influx is expected in 2025.

That 6P lens will be considerably more expensive

Kuo says that this change will deliver a considerably better selfie camera performance. It will also increase Apple’s expenses for components, though, of course. That 6P lens is said to cost 100-120% more than the 5P lens.

The ‘6P’ definition, when it comes to lenses, refers to the number of elements inside the lens. The more elements the more light usually can enter. That is great for the camera performance, of course, with the right software.

The iPhone 17 series is coming next year

The iPhone 17 series is coming in 2025, while the iPhone 16 series will land later this year. A recent rumor actually said that the iPhone 16 will deliver “very little” change. That is not exactly unexpected.

The iPhone 17 is expected to bring more change to the table. The iPhone 16 will be kind of iterative, based on what we know thus far. It remains to be seen, though. The iPhone 16 Pro is said to include a Tetraprism lens, unlike its predecessor.

Both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will also be a bit larger than their predecessors. Apple is looking to increase display sizes slightly.
