For a couple of years, HMD Global has been launching phones with the Nokia name. Since then, we’ve gotten a lot of weird and interesting devices. However, thanks to @rquandt on Twitter, we’re getting leaked renders of a pretty basic-looking Nokia G12.
The leaked renders show us a basic-looking Nokia G12
Right now, we’re all paying attention to the leaks coming from Samsung, but we can’t forget about the smaller leaks. Thanks to the leaked renders, we get a pretty good look at the upcoming Nokia G12. Looking at the renders, we don’t expect this to be a premium device in any respect.
On the front, we see a display with a tear-drop notch up top and a rather large chin bezel down below. On the right of the phone, we see the volume rocker with a button just below it. There’s also a button on the left side of the device. Most likely, one button is the power button and the other is a Google Assistant button.
On the back of the device, we see a textured material. It’s hard to tell if it’s plastic or some sort of rubber material. While it looks interesting, it adds to the whole not-so-premium look of the phone.
The camera will be interesting
On the top left, we see the tripe-camera setup. We don’t have much information on what these cameras will offer, but there’s one bit of information we could glean. Looking at the render, we can see that the main camera is a 50MP “AI” camera.
OEMs usually hype up their cameras based on certain key features. This AI camera could be the focal point of the G12’s camera. It seems that Nokia will use some sort of artificial intelligence to give it help with the camera performance. It’s an interesting thought, but we’re wondering how much that will actually help. We’ve all heard the AI camera spiel before.
Who is this phone for?
Looking at the renders, the G12 is not looking to make a splash in the premium market. We see a very basic-looking phone that might have a spec sheet to match. We expect this phone to be targeted at the budget to midrange market.
It will be for people who don’t really care about the latest specs or best features. It’d be perfect for people who just want a phone to get them through the day and be done with it.
However, while the AI camera seems like a gimmick, we can’t completely rule out its potential. The camera could possibly be a standout feature for this phone. Only time will tell how this phone sits with users.
