Not one to be left behind, Lenovo is announcing some new gaming monitors at CES this year with the Legion Y27f-30 and the Legion Y27qf-30. Both are 27-inch monitors with flat panels using IPS technology. But one offers Full HD resolution while the other is QHD. That being said, resolution is really where the differences end here.
Refresh rates, backlighting, response times, and connectivity options are all the same. So when choosing either one of these monitors all you need to figure out is two things. What resolution you prefer and what you’re willing to pay for it. Regardless of which monitor consumers choose, both promise pretty decent performance for the cost. That being said, there is one other small difference to make note of.
Both Legion gaming monitors come with a 240Hz refresh rate
Worth noting is that the refresh rate on both monitors does natively come in at 240Hz. But, one has a higher overlock speed than the other. The Legion Y27f-30 overclocks to 280Hz while the Y27qf-30 overclocks to 250Hz. This shouldn’t be an issue though for most people. There isn’t a big difference between 280Hz and 250Hz. And that’s assuming you’d notice a difference at all.
So when it comes down to it, your only deciding factors here should be cost and resolution. Both models support HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4. So there’s no future proofing here. Basically, they’ll work for consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but probably aren’t the best options.
However, again cost is a factor. And the fast refresh rates for PC gaming are going to be pretty good for most players. When it comes to brightness, Lenovo isn’t promising anything crazy here. Both monitors promise a peak brightness of 400 nits. Which is fine, but far below what you’ll get from ASUS, Alienware, and Acer this year.
Following their CES debut, Lenovo plans to launch the Legion y27f-30 and Y27qf-30 gaming monitors in May at $399 and $599 respectively.
