Lenovo's new Legion Pro gaming laptops are tuned with AI

Like the rest of gaming brands out there, Lenovo is unveiling its latest gaming laptops at CES, but the company is doing something a tad unique with Legion Pro series this year. While you can expect the usual set of upgrades and improvements, like more powerful components and refined designs, Lenovo’s latest Legion Pro gaming laptops are tuned with artificial intelligence.

Lenovo claims these are the world’s first gaming laptops with a dedicated AI chip. What does that mean exactly? Well according to Lenovo, the magic is a combination of hardware and software. Specifically, the Lenovo LA AI chip and the Lenovo AI Engine+ software. Together, the new laptops can dynamically adjust performance based on the needs of the user via a machine learning algorithm. The AI chip monitors things like fps and adjusts performance accordingly based on output.

And if you’re always trying to get the most out of your gaming rig, this seems like a pretty smart way to ensure you get that. As for the specs, all four laptops seem fairly capable. The new series includes the Legion Pro 7i and Pro 7, and the Legion Pro 5i and Pro 5. With the main difference boiling down to the use of Intel or AMD for the CPU.

Across the board, all four laptops come with a 16-inch display. So there’s no variance in size. In fact, the displays are completely the same on all models as well. All come with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 in a 16:10 aspect ratio, with a 240Hz refresh rate, and a 500 nit peak brightness. Lenovo will however offer a second display option on the Legion Pro 5i and Legion Pro 5. The display is the same resolution, but comes with a dimmer 300 nit peak brightness and a slower 165Hz refresh rate.

These options are likely to come with a lower price. Both 7 series models can come with up to 32GB of 6000Mhz DDR5 RAM. Both 5 series models come with up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM as well, but it’s slightly slower at 5600Mhz. Storage is 2TB across the board with up to an Intel Core i9-13900HX CPU in the Legion Pro 7i and Legion Pro 5i, while the Legion Pro 7 and Legion Pro 5 shift to AMD. The Legion Pro 7 only comes with one config though, the Ryzen 9 7945HX.

The Legion Pro 5 however comes with up to a Ryzen 9 7845HX. Lenovo doesn’t list the specific GPU models, but they’re all next-gen NVIDIA RTX cards. Which most likely means 40 series GPUs up to an RTX 4080 or RTX 4090. As that seems to be the standard with most brands this year so far.

Lenovo plans to launch the Legion Pro 7i in March starting at $1,999.99. This will be followed by the Legion Pro 5i and Legion Pro 5 in April starting at $1,479.99 and $1,4599.99 respectively. The Legion Pro 7 will not be getting a launch in North America.
