Lenovo is taking the wraps off of two new laptops ahead of CES 2024 next month. The first is the IdeaPad Pro 5i 16 Gen 9, which is quite the mouthful. This laptop will feature up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor, with up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB Gen 4 PCIe NVMe SSD.
It’s quite a powerful PC, with options for both integrated and discrete graphics. Lenovo will offer options for Intel Arc graphics or an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 laptop GPU. Lenovo has also included a slew of great ports on this laptop, with a USB-C/Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type C, HDMI 2.1, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A, SD Card Reader, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
This laptop also has a stunning display. It houses a 16-inch 2K OLED 120Hz display. This is going to look amazing in virtually any setting. It has a peak brightness of 400 nits, and it also covers 100% of the DCI-P3 spectrum. Lenovo is also offering another model with a slightly higher resolution. It’s still a 16-inch display that is 2.5K IPS with 120Hz and 350 nits of brightness. Both of these displays have 16:10 aspect ratios.
There is a 14-inch model of the IdeaPad Pro 5i Gen 9, which has the same specs but, of course, a smaller display. Lenovo is using a 14-inch 2,8K OLED 120Hz display. It also offers an IPS version that has the same resolution,
IdeaPad Pro 5i is the world’s first consumer Intel Evo Edition laptop powered by the new Intel Core Ultra processors. These processors will power the new AI PC experience on the IdeaPad, which will provide faster AI-powered photo creation and editing, quicker video export, and speedier multitasking, all thanks to Intel AI.
The bottom of the IdeaPad Pro 5i contains 50% recycled aluminum and 90% ocean-bound plastic in the system bag. The IdeaPad is also registered EPEAT Gold and ENERGY STAR certified. This fulfills the highest environmental performance criteria on product longevity, circular design, and energy efficiency.
Lenovo says that the IdeaPad Pro 5i will be available starting today, and is has a starting price of $1,149.
Lenovo’s new ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 is the laptop of everyone’s dreams
Along with the new IdeaPad Pro 5i 16 Gen 9, Lenovo is also debuting the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 ahead of CES 2024. This includes the latest Intel Core Ultra processor, up to 64GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 2TB Gen 4 PCIe NVMe SSD storage. Unfortunately, with this one, you’re only able to get integrated graphics, with up to Intel Arc for graphics.
Lenovo did include a stunning display on this laptop. It’s a 14-inch narrow bezel display that has a 2.8k resolution and an OLED touchscreen. It’s still 120Hz, which is going to make it great for gaming, video editing, and doing regular office work.
This is a pretty lightweight laptop, coming in at 2.42lbs. It is actually lighter than Apple’s MacBook Air 13-inch, which is 2.7lbs. If you want a laptop that is super light, this is probably the one for you.
Tactile markings have always been a part of the ThinkPad design since 1992. This is here to help aid users who are visually impaired to navigate their keyboard. And in 2021, Lenovo established a partnership with the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, North Carolina to better understand how visually impaired users interact with their PCs. Lenovo is the first to integrate additional tactile cues that increase accessibility.
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 will be available in limited configurations starting this month (December 2023), with a starting price of $2,989. The complete portfolio of configurations will be available in March 2024.
