MAINGEAR today is announcing the MG-RC, a new cable management technology that it hopes to standardize within the industry. If you’ve ever built a PC before, then you know what a nightmare cable management can be.
It’s especially challenging if you have a PC case with a big glass panel that lets you see inside. It essentially provides a window to the inside of your PC. If you didn’t do a good enough job with cable management, then there’s no real way to hide that dirty little secret. Thankfully, you can just get a PC case that doesn’t have glass panels. Instead opting for one that appears more closed off. There’s another way now though. MAINGEAR MG-RC lets you route the cables to where they’re hidden behind the motherboard.
Giving you a cleaner, more organized look. It’s not just about looking nice though. MG-RC is designed to provide you with real-world benefits. Not the least of which is cooling performance. Because cables are routed behind the motherboard, fewer cables are lying about everywhere else. This helps to reduce the air turbulence and improve cooling, MAINGEAR says. It should also prove to be easier to assemble the PC with this tech. And that benefit alone makes the MG-RC worth it. The only issue right now is compatibility.
MAINGEAR wants to standardize MG-RC with OEMs
If the MG-RC sounds like something you want for your own PC setup, there’s one small problem at the moment. Compatibility. You can’t just pick up the tech and use it with any system. However, MAINGEAR says it’s working to standardize it. So in the future, you might be able to use it with a non-MAINGEAR system. The company says it’s working to standardize the tech with both PC case makers and motherboard manufacturers. MAINGEAR hopes the tech will be widely adopted (we hope so too).
You could of course just take the easy route and buy a new MAINGEAR system.
Two new PCs will feature the cable management tech
In addition to MG-RC, MAINGEAR is announcing two new PCs you’ll be able to buy. Each system is built in collaboration with one of MAINGEAR’s partners. The ZERO is a compact, mini-ATX PC built in collaboration with MSI. It features the B760M Project Zero motherboard and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super GPU. It’s also draped in RGB glow that washes over the white PC case rather nicely. MAINGEAR doesn’t mention how much the PC will cost, but it does say it will go on sale on January 24.
That being said, it will be a super limited drop PC. MAINGEAR says its last drop sold out in under two weeks. So if you want the ZERO you will need to be fast.
The second PC build that utilizes the MG-RC tech is called the NV9 and this one is in collaboration with Phanteks. It uses the Phanteks NV9 case and a Phanteks Glacier One AIO liquid cooler. It’s also using an MSI motherboard although this one is the Z790 Project Zero board instead. Which is a bigger board since this isn’t a mini-ATX build. Additionally, it uses an Intel Core i9-14900K processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Super GPU.
This PC won’t be limited like the ZERO and will be sold directly in MAINGEAR’s main store with the other PC builds it offers. It’ll be available sometime in the first quarter of this year.
