TV manufacturer TCL has unveiled its 2022 lineup of TVs across Europe. Expectedly, these new televisions are based on Android 11, though we expect Android 12 TV to begin rolling out later this year.
TCL’s new TV lineup for 2022 includes 4K LED televisions plus Mini LED models, which carry a higher price tag. At least a few of these TVs could appear in the U.S., though they’re limited to Europe. TCL didn’t reveal the pricing tiers for these newly unveiled televisions.
Starting with the entry-level 4K models, the TCL P63 and P73 series are available in sizes ranging from 45 to 85-inches. All models in the lineup support Dolby Vision by default.
The mid-range C73 series offers a better variable refresh rate and will also be available in a gargantuan 98-inch variant. The TCL C73 series slots lower than the C83 but brings general improvements over the P63 and P73 series. Meanwhile, the C83 series offers Mini LED screens in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch configurations. This lineup also supports variable refresh rate (VRR), 4K120 content, and HDMI 2.1.
Android TV 12 will be available later this year
Lastly, TCL also unveiled the C93 series with significantly better dimming zones than the C83 series. The lineup will include 65 and 75-inch models. Other features include VRR and auto low-latency input, HDMI 2.1, and 4K120 content.
These televisions run Android 11, so it’s the same Google TV software as last year’s TCL televisions and the latest Chromecast hardware. There’s also a new feature called “Game Bar,” making it easier for users to access the TV’s gaming features. As per FlatPanelsHD (via 9to5Google), the TVs also include Google Assistant, Google Stadia, and the Google Play Store for the complete Android TV experience.
Although the lack of Android 12 may seem disappointing, it’s worth remembering that Android TV 12 is still under development. Google recently confirmed that the software would only be available by the end of the year.
TCL is one of the well-known names in the TV business, thanks to its extensive product lineup. Based on a recent report by research firm Omdia, the company could soon overtake LG to become the second-largest TV manufacturer in the world. Meanwhile, Samsung sits firmly at the top spot in the TV business.
