Last week, Samsung released the January 2024 Android security patch for its 2023 and 2022 foldables in the US. The 2021 lineup is now joining the party. The latest security update is rolling out widely to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 stateside. The new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4 is also available in more markets.
Samsung updates Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 3 to the January security patch
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 kicked off Samsung’s security update run for 2024. The 2022 foldable duo first picked up the new SMR in Europe, followed by the US. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 joined the party a few days later. The newer foldables first received it in the US before Samsung gradually released the update in international markets.
Now, we have confirmation that the January 2024 security patch is rolling out to the US versions of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. The new firmware build numbers for the former are F926USQS4HWL7 (carrier-locked) and F926U1UES4HWL7 (unlocked). Those for the Flip are F711USQS5HWL7 and F711U1UES5HWL7, respectively. Samsung’s official changelog says the update only brings the latest security fixes.
The Korean behemoth has already revealed that its January security update for the Galaxy family patches 80 vulnerabilities. 75 of those are Android OS patches supplied by Google. The Android maker patched one critical and several dozen high-severity vulnerabilities across various system components this month. The remaining five issues are exclusive to Galaxy devices and are patched directly by Samsung.
These security fixes will soon reach the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in other markets. Samsung will also roll out the update to more eligible devices in the coming days and weeks, including the Galaxy S23 series. As usual, you will get a notification once the new SMR is available for your Galaxy device. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app.
These foldables should get the One UI 6.1 update
This update for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 may not bring anything more than the latest security fixes but a new feature update is on the way for the foldable duo. Samsung will push Android 14-based One UI 6.0 to them, and all newer foldables. The new One UI version will debut with the Galaxy S24 series. The 2021 foldables will also receive the Android 15 update at the end of 2024.
